Highlights from the 2026 Golden Globes
Today’s live updates have ended, but there’s still plenty to catch up on. Read what you missed below and find more awards season coverage at apnews.com.
Hollywood’s awards season has kicked off with the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, where “Hamnet” and the highly nominated “One Battle After Another” received top honors.
Comedian Nikki Glaser returned for a second year to host the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, taking shots at CBS in her opening monologue.
It’s a champagne-soaked party featuring some of the biggest names in film and television, even if the awards won’t exactly forecast the Oscars. Before the show, fashion took the center stage on the red carpet.

The exodus is starting
There’s still four awards left, but Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell and Keegan-Michael Key are making their way out before the final awards.
Nuggets from the commercial break
- Macaulay Culkin laughing with Parker Posey.
- Steven Spielberg chatting with Dwayne Johnson.
- Adam Sandler taking a selfie with Noah Jupe.
- Jacobi Jupe sitting on Jessie Buckley’s lap.
- Emma Stone laughing with three Beverly Hills police officers.
Scenes from the ballroom bar, including a Jennifer Lawrence-Emma Stone moment
- Glen Powell chatted up Seth Rogen, hopefully about a guest spot on “The Studio.”
- Jennifer Lawrence made her way to the bar area where she hugged Jeremy Allen White before finding Emma Stone, who put down her white wine and took her friend’s face in her hands. They fluffed their hair when a photographer asked for a photo before they decided to take their own selfie as well.
- Kirsten Dunst spotted Lawrence nearby too, telling Mona Fastvold and Zoë Kravitz that she just wanted to say hi. Jesse Plemons soon arrived with three drinks to dole out. One was not for Lawrence, who went to stand in line for the bar.
Where is Patrick Schwarzenegger’s blender?
Patrick Schwarzenegger took a good long look at the desert table before moving on, empty handed, toward the sushi. No protein shakes here unfortunately.
Scenes from inside the ballroom: A dirty martini and sushi for kids
- Seth Rogen treated himself to what looked like a very dirty martini after his win.
- Fashion standout Duke McCloud, 6, tried the sushi, his mom confirms. “He thought it was OK.” Please tell the Wall Street Journal.
- Lisa Ann Walter complimented Duke for being so good at the show because, she said, “I’m bored out of my mind.”
- Pamela Anderson and Jackie Tohn complained about the long lines to get in while washing hands.
A glamorous train to the ladies room
Ariana Grande led a glamorous train to the ladies room, telling Jessie Buckley and Renate Reinsve to “hold on to me!” The three made a brief stop to say hi to Tessa Thompson before reaching their destination. In the line for the toilets, Grande sighed, “Phew we made it,” holding up her voluminous gown as best she could. When someone still stepped on it, she said, “No, I’m the problem!”
Scenes from inside the ballroom: Celebrations and a stop at the bar
- After Stellan Skarsgård’s win, Sean Penn beelined to the “Sentimental Value” table to give Renate Reinsve a big hug, while Megan Everett-Skarsgård celebrated with Elle Fanning.
- Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons held court in the bar area. She was halfway through pouring herself a cup of coffee when she paused. “I don’t even want this,” she laughed, “do you?” Just then Paul Mescal made his way into the side room and struck up a conversation with them.
- Emma Stone beelined to the side room after the first award, leading her “Bugonia” director Yorgos Lanthimos and co-star Alicia Silverstone along with her. Stone and Lanthimos were deep in conversation, with brief interruptions requesting selfies.
Timmy walks alone, but Kylie is there too
We have eyes on Kylie Jenner inside the ballroom. Like last year, she didn’t walk the red carpet alongside her nominated date, Timothée Chalamet.
Mila Kunis to the rescue
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were the first to arrive to “The Beast in Me” table. Kunis was on a mission to give some bandages to Alicia Silverstone who thanked her profusely.
‘Please get inside’ — or else
The overhead announcer threatens that seats will be released soon if guests don’t leave the closed carpet and get inside, with about 10 minutes to go until the telecast begins.
The Hit Man is a gentleman
Glen Powell escorted his mother into the ballroom, taking her arm to navigate the steps Alicia Silverstone just moments earlier sidestepped down. They spotted their table off to the side and Powell took a beat: “Want to hit the bar then?”
A ‘13 going on 30’ reunion turns into a Penske explainer
Before the show, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo caught up near the bar, laughing, but conversations weren’t on starting an impromptu “Thriller” dance. Ruffalo attempted to explain the Penske empire of publications and how they’re related to the Globes. “Isn’t that crazy,” he said.
Matty Matheson is watching
Don’t worry, the sushi isn’t sitting out at the tables. It’s delivered to the seats only once someone is sitting there. They’ve got the likes of Matty Matheson to impress after all.
The juke joint women stick together
The ballroom is open and “Sinners” stars Li Jun Li and Jayme Lawson arrived together early at the “Sinners” table and were quickly served some Nobu.
A challenging walk up the carpet
A massive construction project across from the main driveway of the Beverly Hilton hotel has upended the Golden Globes.
Instead of walking down the red-carpeted driveway and into the lobby, the starry attendees are stepping onto an oxblood carpet, which is fully enclosed for the first time and set up along Wilshire Boulevard, which is shut down for the awards.
There are stairs to contend with as A-listers make their way, including what’s being called the golden ascent, a staircase designed to mimic a film reel as it unspools.
If they survive the gauntlet, the celebs will find a meal from tony Nobu, a celebrity haunt known for its Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine, waiting on their plates in the International Ballroom. It’s practically comfort food for Kylie Jenner, whose family are regulars at the Malibu location.
The construction causing all the changes is a $10 billion mixed-use development featuring two luxury residential towers, a hotel, shopping and restaurants. For years, that property was a giant hole after a department store was shuttered and torn down.
Celebrities this way, normals the other
That grand, Met Gala-esque staircase was only for the stars. The non-famous entered through another, ground level entrance. “Don’t worry,” a staffer told a disappointed guest. “There’s a place to get your photo at the end too.”
He may have been born in 1601, but he’s 2026’s fave
From “Shark Tank” to the Globes, Kevin O’Leary had his own cheering section at the limo drop off. The “Marty Supreme” breakout had some 20somethings screaming for a selfie: “You should do more movies!” one shouted.
One Escalade after another
Time to get to the red carpet from the Mid-Wilshire area, a journey that is 5.4 miles (8.7 kilometers) and, normally, 23 minutes: 90 minutes.
Up the staircase!
The Golden Globes has chosen a daunting staircase climb for its celebrity guests, flanked by photographers on both sides. The setup is not unlike the daunting Grand Staircase for the Met Gala. Good luck to all!
The gauntlet to get inside the Globes
University of California and Simi Valley police and bomb-sniffing dogs of no obvious, immediate affiliation were on hand to help monitor vehicles dropping off guests, involving a labyrinthine route that might befuddle even the most seasoned Angeleno, accessible only to those traveling east.
